Romanticism: Part (1)
Dear Students,

The first part of our course deals with the following titles from the Chapter, "Romantic Period,1780-1832:historical overview":

1. Culture and Society (pp. 311- 317)
2. Belief and Thought (pp.317-321)

"Politics, power and ideologies" is not included

In Culture and Society, we deal with one of the main arguments related to the forces that affected, instigated and shaped the literary production of romantic writers,i.e., the economic and social changes that resulted from the industrial revolution in Britain.

Those changes disrupted the normal pattern of life at the time and led, according to the Romantics, to social disintegration.

In Belief and Thought, we dealt with how major trends in the way we, humans, acquire knowledge, and new schools of thoughts and natural philosophy, all affected the Romantics' celebration of the imagination and nature. remember that the Romantics were interested in psychology, mental states, subjectivity, the nature of good and evil, the spirit as energy, and how perceptions and impressions affect how we see and feel the world around us.

Developments in science allowed Man to explore both the limitations and open horizons of human knowledge through the study of nature and the intellectual capacities of man. And this was very important to the Romantics who hailed the potentials of the INDIVIDUAL.
